Audio recording of an inquest hearing

How to apply online, request a recording and the costs involved.

Audio recordings of inquest proceedings are typically accessible only to a limited group of individuals. These are:

  • close family members or relatives of the deceased.
  • organisations or people who provided testimony or evidence during the course of the inquest proceedings (referred to as Interested Persons).
  • legal representatives acting on behalf of the close relatives or Interested Persons.

It is important to note that all requests for access to audio recordings must receive approval from the presiding Coroner before they can be granted and issued.

Charges and Fees

  • A fee of £5 is applicable for each day, or part thereof, of the inquest proceedings for which the audio recording is requested.
  • An additional charge of £2 is levied for tracked delivery within the United Kingdom, or £7 for tracked overseas delivery.

To initiate the payment process, you can start by using the button below. This will redirect you to our designated payment service platform specifically designed for the collection of charges on behalf of the Suffolk Coroner Service.

Upon submitting your request, you can expect a response from the Coroner Service within 10 working days, providing further guidance or the requested audio recording(s), subject to the necessary approvals and fee payments.
