Suffolk Coroner's Service

Providing a caring and efficient service for the investigation of deaths in a sensitive, thorough and timely manner.

What is the service?

The coroner has a legal obligation to be involved in cases if the death, for example, is unnatural, has arisen from an accident or injury. Once a referral has been made or a police report submitted, the coroner will commence an investigation into the circumstances of the death.

Inquest hearings

In some cases, the law requires an inquest to investigate a death. This page explains why inquests happen, what to expect during the process, and how long it might take. We aim to clear up any confusion and offer support throughout.
